Emerging Technology - Engine for Sustainable Growth

Technology is changing fast and that is forcing organisations to change the way they used to do business. Line between technology firms and non-technology firms are getting blurred. Digital Technology has become an integral and inseparable component of our lives. Connected devices are increasing in leaps and bounds along with the urban population. Digital technology innovation will help to create a sustainable future for industries and societies at large, by leveraging the connected devices and churning out important relevant information from the exabyte of data these generate. Sustainable development needs to focus on environmental protection, social development and economic progress. Emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Robotics, Additive Manufacturing, Blockchain, Unmanned Vehicles, Augmented and Virtual Reality, are taking active part in the creation of sustainable future. This is high time to delve into emerging technology stack and leverage the most applicable technologies to restructure business strategy to move towards sustainable growth. It is apparent that Emerging Technologies pave the way to the future of developments for society. It will be a platform that can help in eradicating hunger, protecting environment, improving quality of life and life expectancy, automate manual tasks, increase new genre of employment and help in innovative business strategy.

Emerging technologies have opened up new opportunities for rise in the economy, employment and wealth creation. They continue to expand capabilities and productivity of firms and individuals, based on utilization of better machines and information, thus helping in establishing new business models and creating entirely new industries.

Emerging technologies are rapidly changing industries and sectors, building new opportunities for competition in new markets with new production capacities. India has taken up major role in some of the innovation of many emerging technologies that benefit from a competitive edge. Bridging the gap for the technological divide will remain crucial for achievement by many developing countries of higher, sustained economic growth and for their reduction of economic inequalities. On the other hand, those developing countries enjoy certain advantages during periods of rapid technological change, since they are not burdened with what are known as legacy investments in technologies.

Most scenarios about the future emerging technologies are hypothetical but there are already symptoms of an existential question if these technologies are not adopted. They are the lifelines of future that will drive every single change touching every single life. The seminar will discuss about multiple faces of emerging technology and how it can be used for overall improvement of current and future generation.

The recent outbreak of the nCOVID-19 pandemic round the world instigated the largest research ground for various startups to come up with innovative solutions using emerging technologies to track, identify, shift and cure patients. In many countries a lot of startups used Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Data Analytics during the lock down to fetch data and identify suspects to transfer them to isolation.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) was used to identify disease outbreaks as well as forecast their nature of spread. The Coronavirus outbreak once again reminds business owners and IT Heads that the best time to plan for pandemics and natural disasters is before they happen. As COVID-19 raced around the world and major cities in the continents started declaring states of emergency to tackle the outbreak, it implied that the time has come to dust off and update your business disaster recovery plan. The sad reality was that MSMEs and even large businesses didn’t have a disaster recovery plan that could have assisted them to survive a catastrophic pandemic. No business is invincible against a significant pandemic or large natural disaster, but with the right preparations, businesses can endure the unthinkable. Hence risk assessment and devising a disaster recovery plan was the need of the hour. Distinguishing and prioritising mission-critical systems and securities from additional ones and understanding the priority levels of the systems, networks, and business functions could be one of the difference makers for businesses in the face of a disaster.

Keeping this in context and with the aim to come up with better innovations for preparedness to combat more such pandemics, CII Eastern Region will be hosting the 19th edition of ICT East on 23-24 September 2020. The conference aims at understanding the benefits of the emerging technologies, workplace & process innovations that may emerge out of these technologies and also to delve deep in to devising new strategies to accelerate production and process. The conference wants to inform industry at large to how to use intelligently the emerging technology suitable for individual industry to achieve sustainable growth in near future.
