ABOUT EVENT
Through the smart meter national program, the Government of India aims to replace 250 million conventional meters with smart meters in India and plans to install over 100 million smart meters in the next two years.
India’s power sector in the present day is distressed due to high AT & C losses, inefficient distribution and transmission system because of age old infrastructure and power theft. The deployment of large scale smart meters can address the issues of the Indian Power Sector by seamless integration of emerging technologies in the field of monitoring, automation, control, communication, and IT systems and can initiate a technology-led transformation.
Smart metering is indeed the foundation on which the future readiness of India’s power system will be built. As the Indian economy charts a recovery out of the COVID crisis, this is an opportune time to accelerate the adoption of smart meter infrastructure. However, this will require enabling and rectifying measures in the policy, regulatory and the operational spheres aided by the government and the industry, together.
Against this backdrop, CII is organizing a Conference on ‘Smart Metering - Achieving 100 Million Smart Meters by 2023 to shape India’s Power Distribution’ scheduled for Thursday, 27 January 2022 over virtual platform. The conference aims to provide a platform for key stakeholders to connect and engage on various aspects of smart metering including communication systems, emerging technologies, design and testing, and data acquisition and management and the interventions needed that will shape an environment conducive for the development and modernisation of India’s power system and distribution sector.
