Nurture and Celebrate Indian Women in STEM
Launch of e-Book on Indian Women Achievers in STEM
7 August 2021, 1100-1300 hrs

Tamil Nadu Technology Development and Promotion Centre (TNTDPC) of CII aims to recognize and celebrate women in technology who bring a unique vision and talent to the industry. The centre aims to profile and create an e-Book of Women in STEM who are achievers, innovators and leaders in various domains and have dedicated time and energy to contribute to the economy & society.

According to the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2018-19 by the Ministry of Education, women constitute nearly 43% of the total STEM enrolments in the country; however, the disparity becomes starker with subsequent qualifications. Given the important role of science and technology in economic development, more policies must be aimed at encouraging and retaining women in the STEM areas. Employing the full potential of a skilled female labour force can play a key role in determining the country’s economic productivity, social mobility and innovation. United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG) includes women’s use of enabling technology, including ICTs as a means of achieving economic empowerment and greater agency. Moreover, breaking myths and stereotypes around STEM is not only crucial to achieve Goal 5 (gender equality) but also many other STEM-related SDGs.

Keeping the above as the background and the numerous initiatives taken up by the Government of India – Department of Science and Technology, TNTDPC is embarking upon bringing out the e-Book on Women in STEM with the following Objectives:

  • To recognize and celebrate women in technology who bring a unique vision and talent to the industry.
  • To recognize and encourage the contribution of women technology leaders who are making a difference and taking efforts to advance women in STEM.
